Sunlight Rock on Kulangsu Island

Francis Guenette is a novelist and a blogger. I met her online, and for the past few months I’ve been following her warm and thoughtful blog, Disappearing in Plain Sight. On it, she writes about writing, country living, her grandchildren and the construction of a new greenhouse. She posts gorgeous photos of birds and flowers and her house on a lake.

Location, Location, Location” is a series she been doing for a while now. In it, guest authors write about the way a location can shape and influence a writer’s work. So far, Fran has featured eleven authors.

Here are the wide-ranging locations these authors have written about: the woods, the Highlands of Scotland, Northern Wales, Milan and the fashion industry, World War II on the Island of Jersey, espionage in Norway, Switzerland & Austria at the end of World War II, Northern Queensland, Florida, desert vistas of Southern California, the corporate boardroom in Melbourne, Australia, and the Canadian west coast.

my cover, 5-27-14Today I’m honored to be the twelfth author chosen for the “Location, Location, Location” series. The place I highlight is Kulangsu, the small Chinese island where my novel, Tiger Tail Soup, is set. If you click here, you can read how I learned about this little-known island and why I chose to place my characters there.

While you’re done, I’m sure Francis would be delighted to have you look around her site.

Really enjoyed reading it!! Plus, I am happy to see that the post contained a few more buying options besides Amazon. I tried to purchase your book several times to no avail.

What a nice guest post you did! As I wrote over there, I really loved that you set your novel in Kulangsu, it was one of the things that made your story stand out from many other wartime China novels. (BTW, nice photo of you wearing a lovely Chinese style jacket!)

Thank you, Jocelyn. It was fun to write about Kulangsu. It’s such an interesting place.

The nice thing about that Chinese style jacket is, it never goes out of style. I hesitate to say how old it is. Let’s just say, about as old as one of my daughters.
